Need a fun science experiment?

Hello! Well, we completed our first full week back after Christmas break! It was a fun week; I think the children were ready to come back to school. We did a fun and simple science experiment to start off the new year.  Our question was, "Can we grow crystals that look like snowflakes?" And the answer is "Yes!" Here's what you'll need: baking soda, water, yarn or string, 2 plastic cups, and a tray.
I had each table in my classroom set up the experiment.

Directions:
Fill each cup with lukewarm water.
Add baking soda...we didn't measure...just put about 3-4 teaspoons full in the water and stir it til it dissolves.
Put the 2 cups of baking soda water on a tray and put the ends of a piece of string or yarn in each cup, so it is draped across.
Let the cups sit overnight and observe the beautiful, snow-like crystals the next day!

Z is for Zinnias

We did a little spring planting the first week in May. I love planting zinnias....it's one of my favorite flowers and I can usually count on pretty good results when the kids plant them. They tend to be pretty easy to grow and I love that!

We came back to school Monday morning to see these beauties already growing!

V is for Volcano

Hello! Hope you're having a good week. Just wanted to share a little science we did this past week. We were working with the sound of letter "v" so we did the volcano experiment with baking soda and vinegar. It was awesome! Loved all of the squeals as the lava bubbled over the top! That's one of the things I love about teaching kindergarten!!

The children did this in groups of 2 or 3 and each child had a turn to pour in a little of the vinegar. (I did put red food coloring in the vinegar, but it doesn't show up well in the picture...) Thanks for checking in!
